Job Description:

Applications are invited for an Impact and Engagement Manager to join the John Innes Centre based in Norwich, UK. Background: The John Innes Centre is an independent, international centre of excellence in plant science and microbiology based in Norwich. From November 2018, the John Innes Centre will lead a large, multidisciplinary project focussed on UK resilience to the bacterial plant pathogen, Xylella fastidiosa. The impact of the project will rely on the generation, analysis and communication of evidence underpinning future UK responses to this pathogen. Success will depend on close engagement with stakeholders, including policy-makers, government agencies, industries and NGOs. Applications are sought for an Impact and Engagement Manager for this project. The role: This senior, outward-facing role will work across all partners in the project, ensuring that policy-makers' evidence needs are met, and other stakeholders' interests are integral to the project from the outset. The main activities and responsibilities of the role will include:
  • Meeting evidence-based policy needs
  • Developing an open policy making framework
  • Engaging with industry
  • Organising workshops and events
This post offers the opportunity to work in a priority area with scientific partners at the very top of their game. It is a new role with the possibility of significant impact and visibility. The ideal candidate: The successful applicant will be a trained research scientist with experience of research impact on policy and practice. They will be a credible interlocutor and possess exceptional communication skills with experience of synthesising scientific evidence for a range of non-scientific audiences. Additional information: Salary on appointment will be within the range £48,600 - £59,400 depending on qualifications and experience. This is a fulltime post for a period of 26 months.
