(£29,246 - £35,544 Trainee role requiring Development Plan)

Nature and Scope:

The Commercial Management Team within Connections 'Projects' business unit is responsible for the financial performance and financial and Regulatory reporting for Connections 'Projects' for all three DNO areas within UKPN. This role is based in Bury St Edmunds but will require some travel across the EPN area.

This role requires a good level of knowledge and competence of both analysing and manipulation of financial data from different formats to enable it to be compared and validated.

Knowledge of the Operational electrical network would be a significant advantage, but is not a necessity. This role will help to provide a good understanding of the costing and pricing aspects of delivering Connections Projects.

The role of the Assistant Quantity Surveyor is to support the Commercial Management and Design teams to deliver improved financial performance and ensure robust compliance with Regulatory reporting requirements. This will predominantly involve financially reviewing Projects that are completed and comparing the work and costs planned by the Designer with the work undertaken, and the costs booked to the job.

This will require validation of any differences and identification of the reasons for any cost differences.

This role is a replacement within a team which has already delivered significant improvements in Commercial Awareness and Financial performance within Connections Projects. Be part of a team that is making a difference and improving commercial focus and financial performance of the business?

Job Purpose:

This role financially reviews all completed Connections Projects to connect or modify electricity supplies'. This involves reviewing what physical work was actually undertaken to deliver the Works for the customer compared to what was planned by the Designer within the Quotation that was accepted and paid by the Customer. The resulting analysis must enable objective feedback into future pricing decisions.

Principal Accountabilities:

* Undertake financial and technical reviews of 'to compare the activities identified in the quoting system by Designers with the physical work undertaken by Operations

* Robustly and accurately identify the reasons for any cost differences so that they can be fed back into the quoting and pricing process and system as required.

* Produce and share objective feedback with Designers and Field Engineers and assist in the communication of differences and drive improvements in the accuracy of pricing through review and feedback.

* Help facilitate the relationship between Connections Design team and numerous Operations Field Engineers in respect of understanding differences and maintaining standards of performance.

* Take responsibility for specific areas and teams within the relevant Operational region and development of the relationship to minimise WIP and cost differences.

* Support the 'Project Closure' process to ensure compliance with financial processes and Regulatory reporting requirements.

* Calculate, negotiate, influence and implement cost reconciliations so that relevant chargeable cost difference are recovered from or returned to the Customers.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Competencies

Essential for Trainee (Development) role

* Good level of PC literacy, with demonstrable competence in using Excel and the ability to analyse data and identify differences.

* Attention to detail to ensure accuracy when reviewing and compiling data as credibility and integrity is very important.

* Team working with the drive and ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve shared goals and optimise the contribution of all members of the team.

* Initiative with a bias for action and problem resolution.

* Ability to build good working relationships with other staff and other teams within UK

Power Networks.

* Ability to work in a pressured environment as part of a highly focused team.

* Self -motivated, with a strong drive to succeed.

* Experience in compiling reports.

Essential for Competent Role

* Experience working with commercial contracts, understanding contractual terms and conditions and challenging contractual claims.

* Proven experience in taking responsibility for financial decision making and being accountable for financial outcomes.

* Excellent level of PC literacy, advanced competence in using Excel and the ability to robustly and accurately analyse data and produce reports and graphs.

* Must demonstrate integrity, credibility and act professionally

* Team working with the drive and ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve shared goals and optimise the contribution of all members of the team.

Desirable

* Operational understanding of the construction of the Electricity Distribution Network and Operational knowledge of how it operates would be a distinct advantage.
