Job Description:

Deputy Care Manager at Avocet House

Salary: £24,657 to £27,358 (depending on experience) plus sleeping in bonus as per rota

Location: Loddon, Norfolk

Hours:
This position involves working shifts. The working week is calculated over a complete shift pattern and is then averaged out.  It will be a minimum of 37 hours per week.  Due to the nature of the role you will be required to have your own transport.  We have two homes within 3.5 miles of each other, providing great opportunities for shared professional development. Onsite parking is available.

We are looking for a Deputy Care Manager to join our team at Avocet House, near Loddon, on a full time permanent basis.

The Deputy Care Manager is an important management role, leading the home's operation during any period of duty management and holding case co-ordinating responsibility. The person appointed to this role will play a pivotal part in consolidating and developing care practice within Specialist Education Services.

The successful candidate will be one of our team of 5 DCMs supporting the Registered Manager and Head of Care.  Our DCMs lead shift teams, hold casework co-ordination roles for key children, support individual team members’ professional development and deputise for the Registered Manager whilst acting as duty senior.

Job Requirements:

General Responsibilities:
  • To be conversant with, and work towards, fulfilling the establishment’s Statement of Purpose in relation to the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations including the quality standards’, ensuring that the SES philosophy, ethos, aims and objectives are reflected in its organisation and practice.
  • To maintain clear, effective and impartial communication between education and care staff, and the senior management team.
  • To monitor objectively the quality of relationships between children, between staff and children, and between staff, with the constant aim of improvement.
  • To maintain good practice, be informed on current practice, and in liaison with the Registered Manager, implement changes in accordance with developments in the residential social work field.
  • To liaise with staff of all disciplines as necessary to promote co-operation within the home and ensure minimum disruption to the smooth running of the establishment.
  • To be conversant with and adhere to all procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
This role would be suitable for current team leaders who want to expand and develop their experience or aspiring care staff seeking promotion.

Applicants must have a Level 3 Diploma (Residential Childcare or equivalent). We welcome candidates with ambition as well as experience and we will train all our DCM team to Diploma Level 5.

Some of our previous Deputy Care Managers have gained internal promotion to Head of Care and Registered Manager positions or have gained external promotion based on their experience with us.

This is a great opportunity for someone within a social work, health or educational environment who wishes to extend their experience, or for those who aspire to the management role as the next stage in their development.

Your current post may have contractual obligations to repay training costs for diplomas or other significant courses if you leave. We value that experience and therefore if you were successful in securing a role with us we would relieve you of that obligation to your current employer and meet those costs.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Appointments are dependent on a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure.

If you are interested in this role then please apply online in the first instance with a copy of your latest CV and we will contact you directly and send you our application pack, which we will require before the interview date.

The interview date is Friday 25th January 2019
