Technical Bespoke Estimator
My client are the market leader in the manufacture of flat roof glass rooflights.
Project size can vary between £1k - £1m from a simple standard fixed rooflight up to multiple complex sliding rooflights with multiple sections on large developments working with the UKs top architects and major contractors.
Whilst many of our sales are standard products, either stock sizes or made to measure to a standard design with automated pricing systems, a large proportion of our sales remains purpose made bespoke designs to suit a customer's specific requirements. You will be primarily responsible for providing bespoke estimates to the sales department for these bespoke products.
The role of Technical Bespoke Estimator (TBE) is to generate profitable bespoke pricing for our UK, and International sales teams.
The role will require constant attention to detail & improvement for the estimating process, to ensure quotes are returned within the agreed KPI parameters.
You will assist all Sales staff in interpreting the customer's requirements and you may be required to act as a technical representative attending sales meetings with a member of the sales team. Working within the technical team you will be expected to liaise closely with design, manufacturing and our new product development departments to achieve accurate pricing and sound technical proposals to ensure that you can help drive this bespoke area of the business.
You will need to have a technical background and be able to read architectural and engineering drawings and interpret client specifications to deliver a workable solution within our constraints. This is a senior position reporting directly to the Technical Product Manager.
Producing budgets for the Sales team to ensure customer quotes are prepared efficiently, obtaining quotes from external suppliers and other information necessary for the accurate production of project budgets.
Analysis of specifications, checking areas of compliance and writing reports to identify any variance making alternative recommendations.
Value engineering on projects to help customers find more cost effective solutions.
Evaluation and estimating, internal and sub-contracting materials and labour cost by the use of sound conceptual estimating capabilities.
Understanding the manufacturing processes to be able to evaluate capacity and times for various manufacturing operations.
Analyse and compile data on all factors that have an influence on costs such as materials and project specific requirements such as handling, delivery, installation etc.
Assist the Technical Support team in improving the accuracy of automated costing systems including Bespoke pricing schedule.
Assist in the development of the new processes to improve Departmental/Company output and identify and support the implementation of all opportunities to reduce cost.
Assist in the improvement of the company wide business process strategy under the umbrella of BSI ISO 9001 & BSI ISO 14001.
Sound engineering/glass knowledge
Comprehensive understanding of Architectural and other customer drawings provided.
Thorough understanding of technical specifications and the ability to assist customers with their technical enquiries.
Computer literate (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Good time management/be able to work to deadlines
